Bring out your favorite dresses and skirts this winter, because fortunately, we have a solution to your desire but inability to wear these short numbers – the infamous colored, opaque tights. Not only do colored, opaque tights add a pop of color to any outfit, but they are both eternally flattering and leg slimming – a plus after all the holiday dinners and cocktails you are attending this season!
Spotted on the runways of classically chic brand Milly (shown above) and in many retailers such as American Apparel , these tights have been available in classic black, electric blue and red colors. Additionally, we’re adoring cozy cable knit tights and wool tights as well this season. An instant way to add glamour, the colored opaque tight is a guaranteed way to spice up any wardrobe.
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to color-coordinate your dress to your tights. However, keep it as less obvious as possible, by keeping the tights somewhat sheer or half-opaque. It can look too monochromatic when the tights are just as thick as the rest of the dress palette. Additionally, color coordinating the tights to the dress allow you to incorporate a bold colorful bag, necklace or shoe, to ensure that piece stands out.
If you’re not yet sold with color coordination, try pairing your bright tights with an all-black ensemble or anywhere in the same color family/palette. For a more daring look, try pairing your bright tights with a patterned-outfit – but be careful to ensure that the patterns are somewhat muted, at the risk of looking too bright. Some of our favorite color combinations include: mustard yellow tights with a purple ensemble, cobalt blue tights with an orange ensemble, olive green tights with a chocolate brown ensemble and fuchsia tights with a yellow outfit.
