Unleash Your Inner Beach Babe In Four Simple Steps
Summer’s rapidly approaching, but are you ready to swap your oversized woolly jumpers, baggy cardigans and winter thermals for a kaftan or bikini? The dreaded beach body reveal can leave many of us quivering in our faux fur coats and leg warmers, but there are ways to feel confident and sassy in a summer swimming costume or two-piece.
Burn up a sweat
If you piled on the pounds at Christmas or ate far too much chocolate at Easter, you might have considered liposuction or a tummy tuck procedure – but surgery is not your only option. A good workout will help you lose weight and tone up, so why not burn up a sweat on the treadmill or get your heart pumping on the cross-trainer instead? If gyms aren’t your thing, you could always go to the park for a run or try something more adventurous like ice skating or roller blading.
Improve your diet
During winter, it can be easy to gauge on comfort foods such as crisps and cake, but spring is the perfect time to rethink what you put on your plate. Everything from rhubarb to asparagus is in season in the UK and you should be able to get hold of some pretty tasty spring onions and Jersey Royal new potatoes. Although many people cut out carbohydrates to lose weight, it’s better to eat a variety of meals which incorporate all food groups, so don’t be afraid to get creative in the kitchen.
Dress to impress
If you’re going on a beach holiday this year, a decent swimming costume, tankini or bikini is a must. There are many styles and designs out there, but the one you go for should flatter your body shape – whether you’re an apple or a pear. If you carry weight round your bum, legs and thighs, for instance, steer clear of ruffles and ruching (as these can make you look bigger than you are) and instead combine dark coloured briefs with a brighter top as stand-out shades will draw the eye away from your bad bits.
Once you’ve bought the right swimwear, liven it up with a few basic accessories. Kaftans, summer hats, bejewelled flip-flops and sarongs are great and you could even invest in some oversized bangles or large earrings. Complete you look with a pair of super trendy shades and you’ll be ready to step out by the coast in no time. The sun and salty air are sure to make colours fade, however, so avoid anything overly expensive and perhaps buy cheap and cheerful garments that can be thrown out at the end of the season.
The warm spell will be here before you know it, so perfect your summer style and look great on the beach.
