How to Rock Red Lips
Today it's hard to flip open a magazine and not find a celebrity or model showcasing the bold red lipstick trend that has recently taken the beauty world by storm. And somehow these stars' lips always look flawless, plump, and needless to say, RED.
After much experimentation, I have concluded that the best way to mimic this look is to revert back to one of the most classic, but somehow forgotten makeups... lipstick.
Despite being linked to "older" generations, lipstick is perhaps the most reliable, vibrant tool that can be used to enhance a look tremendously. As compared to its competitor, lip stain, I find that lipstick is slightly more rich in color and generally lasts longer when applied thickly. In regards to the application process, stick also conforms more easily to the shape of your lips.
For red lips, my lipstick of choice is Mary Kay's Red Salsa, however pretty much any long-lasting lipstick that comes in a bright shade of red will suffice.
To apply, start by making your lips as plush as possible. Using water and a toothbrush, draw mini circles on both your upper and lower lips to remove dead skin. Once the flakes are all gone, pat them dry with a towel. Then, using a clear lip liner pencil (I recommend Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil), outline the shape of your lips smoothly, giving them lots of shape enhancement.
Once those initial steps are completed, you can begin applying your lipstick of choice. Start from the center of your lips and work outward, being careful not to "color outside the lines."
At last, you will have mastered the art of bold red lips!
