Feature Friday- Interview With Jerseylicious Star Anthony Lombardi

Last Friday you guys got to meet Tracy...and now the Jersey love continues. On today's Feature Friday get to know Anthony Lombardi from the hit TV show Jerseylicious. If you don't already love the Gatsby's fun-loving, big-brother you will now!

So tell me what’s going on with your salon? A few episodes ago they had a little goodbye for you at the Gatsby salon. Are you no longer working there?

I made a ton of clients when I was at the Gatsby; when my salon was under renovation. So actually I’m still going back and forth. I’m there two Mondays a month where I’m actually doing hair there- the days that I’m closed at my salon. Me and Gayle thought it would be a good idea to get me back down there and you know keep some of my central jersey clients happy. So although I’m at my salon 95% of the time now; I still get the chance to run down to the Gatsby and get my hands involved in what’s going on down there.

How’d you manage working at the Gatsby, running your own salon and making time for your family?

Well you know Sundays are pretty much my family days. When we’re not shooting; when we are shooting I just try to find family time whenever I can. Sundays are definitely my family days; A day when me and my wife do our thing with my son. It’s just become like a schedule. I kinda know what I’m doing the night before, and I know what I have to prepare for and I know where I have to be. I got a lot going on, but this is the time when I can do it. I’m young enough to do. I don’t know how many more years I can say that, because you know I’m pushing 40.

You’re still young Anthony :).

Is there something specific that people go to you for? Is there an Anthony specialty?

I do a lot bio ionic keratin treatment. I do a ton of them throughout the year, not only in the summer. I’ve kind of built a reputation in the area for doing those things really well. Plus you can always come here and you know customer service is what I’ve built my business on, and it’s what my employees have built their businesses on. You just know that when you come in here whether you’re in my chair or in one my stylists’ chair-anyone will tell you it’s a really cool, chill atmosphere. My salon is smaller than the Gatsby so we can all basically kind of you know interact with each other. It’s a little more like a cozier, homier feeling than the Gatsby. The Gatsby is great, it’s beautiful. I love the Gatsby. It’s just a different vibe at my salon than there is at the Gatsby.

How did it all start? Where does all your passion for doing hair come from?

I always had a passion for doing hair. I always kind of liked it. To be honest with you I didn’t even know if I wanted to do it. I thought I wanted to get into the restaurant business, but that ended up not flying. Basically, if you watch the first season one of the first things I said was I just thought it was a great way to meet girls. I used to drive by beauty schools and I always used to see the girls outside and I was like “Wow they’re all good looking. How do I get myself in there? How do I meet those girls?”

Your son is so adorable. Would you like Anthony Jr. to follow in your footsteps and take over the salon one day?

I want him to do whatever makes him happy. Whatever he has a passion for me and my wife will be behind him 100%. Whether it’s doing hair, whether it’s running for the president of the united states, whatever he wants to do I’ll put my all behind him and be the best father I can.

What about the Gatsby, does it drive you crazy being the only guy in what seems to be a sea of women with really strong personalities?

Not anymore, because like I’ve said I’ve been in this business long enough. If you’re a male in this business you’re pretty much the minority. If you would have asked me this 13, 14 years ago when I was new to hair I would have probably said yeah it drives me crazy. But now I kind of enjoy it. It keeps me young watching them, watching their careers grow, and watching them grow. I love kind of being the mentor, big brother figure to them. I like giving them the help to get their careers to the next level. So for me, no, it doesn’t bother me. In fact, I embrace it. I had somebody that took the time for me, and I like being the person now a couple years later that can take the time and help new stylists to the business.

On the show you give some pretty good relationship advice to both Gigi and Frankie.

I’ve had ton of them in my life. I’m done with them now, but I’ve had a ton of them in my life.

It seems like you have a pretty good relationship with your wife also. What advice can you give to couples everywhere on making a relationship last?

Listen to one another. Nobody runs the show. You can’t have that mentality like, “I’m the male; it’s my way or the highway.” My wife takes care of my son in a way that I can’t. She’s just got that motherly instinct, but if I say something she doesn’t just shoot me down. We’re a team. You just gotta listen. You gotta listen to one another, and be open to take what the other one says; take some advice from each other.

Now on to some beauty advice…

What tips can you share on maintaining the healthiest hair possible?

When you say maintain the healthiest hair possible the first thing that I would tell you is make sure to always see a professional. Don’t try to color your hair at home. If you’re getting color make sure you use a professional product. It might be a little bit more expensive, but in the long run it’s gonna extend the life of your color. It’s gonna extend the life of any kind of keratin treatments you have. There’s a reason we go to school, and we take all the continuing education we take for color. If it was that easy for it to come out of a box there would be no need for us really.

Are you working on any new projects? Can we expect to see any Anthony hair products?

That’s actually a dream that I have, is a product line. I’ve actually researched it a little bit. It’s something that I would say probably might be my next goal to try and achieve. And I’d love to be able to take men’s barbering to another level. I think a lot of men out there aren’t getting the kind of hair that they should. It’s either they have salons; where a lot of times they come and they don’t feel comfortable. But, then again they don’t want to get the $10 hair cut from the barbershop. So I’d like to take men’s grooming and bring it to another level. That’s a dream that I have, that I’d love to see happen in the future.

What’s your definition of beauty?

My definition of beauty is anyone that has the confidence to wear what they want to wear, and not worry about what other people think. If you want to wear it and you think it looks good on you; wear it to the best of your ability. Don’t worry about what everybody else says. And my other definition of beauty is someone who doesn’t follow the trends. Don’t be a trend follower, set the trends. And at the end of the day people are going to look to you and say, “That girl is beautiful, because she has the confidence to do what she wants to do.”
