The Expensive Passions
Even if it’s hot in Florida, when attending a fancy Palm Beach wedding, you may see glamorous ladies rocking some luxurious fur. In the modern world, the real need for fur has been considerably diminished, as there are many artificial materials that can be used in the same way. Nowadays, the PETA advocates are more aggressive to famous people, brands and designers that use fur, but somehow the love for this cruel luxury can’t be stopped. There are big names out there, that are even getting into troubles for their expensive passions, but they are not even close to giving up their scandalous coats and jackets.
It is not okay to say that celebrities like Rihanna or the Olsen twins are more into looking hotter than into fighting for the poor animals. Because these people may love foxes and chinchillas, and at the same time they may love being fancy in the winter. In the evil list of PETA you can find celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Kanye West and Joan Rivers. But there are also famous beauties like Alicia Silverstone or Pamela Anderson, that would rather go naked than wear fur.
This year designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Tom Ford, are totally into pissing off PETA, by pushing the controversial material on the catwalks and in stores. Even if H & M and Calvin Klein have banned fur, we may be witnessing right now its rebirth in fashion. However, as mademoiselle Coco once said, “fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening”and that’s something really easy to perceive as our surroundings influence us in all matters of life, including fashion.
Even if animals have a huge impact on fashion, imagine only how many extraordinary pieces of clothing have animal motifs and prints on them, there are designers who love these unprotected beings so much, that they decided to go fur free. Designers like Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood, Tommy Hilfiger, and Charlotte Ronson will be remembered not only for their amazing creations, but also for their desire to protect the environment and to make this world a better place not only for humans but for animals too.
