All the Buzz on Manuka Honey

A long-time friend and I, both Whole Body frequents and natural skincare enthusiasts, grazed the aisles in search of some new homeopathic remedies. He quickly bee-lined to a shelf in the store and handed me honey (manuka honey, to be precise). Confused, I gave him a perplexed stare. "Tell me you haven't heard of manuka honey," he said to me in disbelief. I hadn't and I was completely intrigued-- and a bit envious uncovered this skincare secret before I did!

So, what is this miracle honey?

Manuka honey is a product of New Zealand that is derived from the nectar of the manuka, or tea tree, bush. Compared to other strains of honey, manuka honey has higher levels of methylglyoxal, which is a compound that has strong antibacterial properties. Therefore, manuka honey is extremely effective in combatting acne and  clearing complexions. It cleanses skin without drying it out like many other alcohol-based products. Abundant with minerals, manuka honey smooths and softens the skin.

How do I use it?

I use manuka honey as a mask. Apply a thin layer of it to your face  before bedtime and let it sit for 30-60 minutes. Gently wash your face with warm water and apply your favorite face oil.

Does it work?

Yes! I've added a manuka honey mask to my daily beauty regimen and noticed the blemishes I had minimized dramatically! Also, my skin tone definitely looks more even.

Where can I buy it?

At your local Whole Body or natural market. You can also find manuka honey online.
