Flashing a mouth full of pearly whites can be one of the sexiest features on a girl. On top of that, your teeth can also let everyone know just how healthy your mouth, and the rest of you, really is. And while I’m sure none of us would like to undergo the dreaded root canal, sometimes we eat or drink certain things that can take a real toll on our teeth and dull our perfect smiles.
So how do we ladies avoid this? Well keep reading my fellow beauty queens so you can find out which 3 ingredients you should avoid to keep your pearly whites looking, well, oh-so-pearly!

I bet you didn’t expect that one. I was just as shocked to hear it as well but it’s true, citrus fruits and berries can be some of the worst offenders for dulling your teeth. With that being said, they should still be a part of your healthy diet as they are choked full of healthy vitamins and antioxidants, but the downside is they are also incredibly acidic which ultimately eats away at the enamel on your teeth. And while it won’t become an overnight issue, your teeth need strong enamel to fight against disease, decay, and to keep your smile as beautiful as ever.
Thankfully, there is a solution!
If you just can’t give up your favourite fruits, try blending them into a smoothie and drinking it with a straw. That way the acidic juice bypasses the front of your teeth and will cut down on the amount of damage done. Or if you are just not a smoothie type of gal, consider eating your fruit with a meal or brushing your teeth after each time you eat a piece of fruit.
It’s a staple in my kitchen, especially if I’m making my own salad dressing or virtually any Asian dish, but like fruit, thanks to it’s acidity level, it is absolutely horrid for your teeth. Luckily, vinegar is a bit easier to deal with than fruit and a good solution to combat the damage done to your teeth is to simply rinse your mouth out after eating anything with vinegar in it. Now, while I’m fully aware this can get a little tricky, especially if you are out on a hot date, you might want to consider excusing yourself and escaping to the ladies room. It may be a tad inconvenient but it is a lot better than ending up with brittle teeth that can break with the simplest bite. After all, broken teeth are not exactly a good look for us ladies.
I mean, can we ladies not catch a break? Not only should we stay away from fruit and anything made with vinegar but now we have to give up our beloved red wine? What a cruel world. However, unless you are okay with a permanent ‘red wine smile’, and you red wine drinkers know exactly what I’m talking about, you may want to consider rinsing your mouth out with water after each glass. Again, not the easiest solution but definitely a must-do for all my fellow red wine drinkers who know first hand just how ‘sexy’ we can look after a few glasses of the red.
After all, shouldn’t we strive to combat the red wine smile at all costs? That’s what I thought.
So if you want to keep flashing those pearlies, try your best to avoid these 3 ingredients. And if you just can’t resist, at least try to rinse your mouth out, or better yet bring a travel toothbrush in your purse. It could come in handy in more ways than one…if you know what I mean! *wink*
